Businesses back national charity event helping deaf children learn to listen and speak
Businesses are signing up to lend their support to ensure charity Auditory Verbal UK can continue to help deaf babies and children learn to listen and speak as it has done through the global pandemic.
The charity, based in London and Oxford, hosts its annual flagship event #LoudShirtDay this month to raise vital funds and awareness of the unnecessary barriers facing deaf children. Despite restrictions and many more businesses being away from the office there are still easy ways to get LOUD on October 23rd and help create a sound future for deaf children.
The Banking Standards Board (BSB) has been supporting AVUK since 2019 and have signed up once again for this year’s event.
“AVUK does outstanding work to raise expectations and outcomes for deaf children which they have maintained and expanded virtually during the pandemic. We are delighted to be supporting them and also having some fun by wearing our loudest shirts at home this year,” Kelly Elston, Chair, BSB Charity Committee.
The family-centred early intervention programme helps support deaf babies and children to learn to listen and talk. The charity has continued to provide its specialised programme throughout the pandemic moving all of its services quickly to online and digital platforms. This ensured that those families already on its programme could still access vital support and new families didn’t delay in helping their deaf children on the journey to listening and speaking on a par with hearing peers.
It’s so easy to take part and make a difference for both businesses and individuals. Register and the range of downloadable resources include Zoom backgrounds and a #LoudShirtDay Quiz or just dress up in your loudest clothes, get all of your colleagues either in the office or virtually involved and why not include your family and of course your pets. Post your photos on social media #LoudShirtDay. Don’t forget to donate – it’s easier than ever online or you can text LOUD to 70970 to donate £5 or 70191 to donate £10.
