Call for artists to create statement piece for new Poplar development
Taylor Wimpey has invited East London artists to create a bold piece that will take pride of place in the show apartment at its new Poplar development.
The housebuilder is preparing to launch the sales centre at Rivermark, in Leven Road, later this year. To mark the culture and creativity of the area, a commission has been launched calling for local artists to come up with a statement artwork that will go on display in the show apartment.
The brief asks for artwork that takes inspiration from the nearby river and associated lifestyles, and / or the tram sheds and arched architecture that Taylor Wimpey is incorporating into the Rivermark development. The piece will be unveiled as part of the show apartment launch.
Rivermark is a development of 1, 2 and 3-bed apartments, landscaped communal gardens, green roofs and sculpted public spaces, as well as new commercial spaces. Some of these spaces are specifically designed to attract small businesses and start-ups in the area and complement the existing fashion hub at Poplar Works.
The development is part of a wider regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley and will bring new life to a former industrial area.
Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations and Sales Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said: “Rivermark will have an engaging blend between modern and industrial design, set on the river bank where people and nature coexist. We’d like to reflect that in this piece of artwork and we’re excited to see what the local creative community comes up with.”
Artists can request the commission brief by emailing rivermark@taylorwimpey-pr.co.uk. CVs and expressions of interest should be submitted by midnight on Sunday 5th October 2025.
A collection of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments are currently on sale at Rivermark, with prices starting from £460,000. People can visit www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/new-homes/poplar/rivermark to find out more.
