In the run up to Spring, Canary Wharf will play host to a variety of sports, arts and culture to banish the winter blues. From the 18th PSA World Squash Tour in the East Wintergarden to Canary Wharf’s newest encapsulating exhibition Wallace Chan – Titans: a dialogue between materials space and time.

The variety of attractions means there are always plenty of options for both residents and visitors to plan for evenings and weekends. The unique basketball court designed by celebrated ‘colour-obsessed’ artist Yinka Ilori, Helaine Blumenfeld’s ‘Look Up’ outdoor art exhibition, Camille Walala’s ‘Captivated by Colour’ walkway and the Canary Wharf Children’s Art Trail remain firm fixtures on the Estate, offering a rich cultural tapestry in the ’15 minute city’ where everything from art and bars to shops and pharmacies can be reached easily by foot.

Visitors are invited to try out Canary Wharf’s rapidly growing choice of bars and restaurants with exciting new openings from Hawksmoor, Seoul Bird, Marugame Udon, Gallio and Six by Nico adding to the hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants.

Monday 21st February – Friday 8th April : Wallace Chan Exhibition
At the centre of Canary Wharf’s cultural programme is James Putnam’s newest exhibition; ‘Wallace Chan – Titans: a dialogue between materials space and time’. Open to visitors for free from 14th February – 8th April, the exhibit explores relations between space, time and materials through titanium, and can be found in the lobby of One Canada Square.

Friday 4th March – Friday 11th March: International Women’s Day on Short Story Stations
In Celebration of IWD this March (8th), Canary Wharf’s popular short story stations will be printing stories from an all-female line up. The popular ‘literature vending machines’ will be packed with hundreds of stories and poems featuring iconic authors such as Virginia Woolf and Emily Brontë, as well as new literature from up-and-coming contemporary female authors.

All stories are free to print on eco-friendly paper. All you need to do is select your reading length and the machine will print your story or poem at random.

Sunday 13th – Friday 18th March: Canary Wharf Squash Classic
Now in its 19th year, Canary Wharf’s stunning East Wintergarden will play host to the Canary Wharf Squash Classic tournament from 13th – 18th March 2022. The garden provides a stunning backdrop to watch the game’s leading male squash stars in action at one of the most popular destinations on the PSA World Tour.

April 1st: Canary Wharf Comedy Club
Canary Wharf’s stunning East Wintergarden will host a night of laughter and fun from a line-up of critically acclaimed comics Milton Jones, Terry Alderton and Shaparak Khorsandi, compered by Felicity Ward. Following the success of last Autumn’s Comedy Club, the spring edition is sure to tickle its audience with theatre style seating, and a full bar available.

Pergola Lates: Every Friday Pergola on the Wharf plays host to late night entertainment set amongst Canary Wharf’s Rooftop garden. The perfect excuse to stay late on a Friday with no tickets, no entry fee and no fuss, Pergola Lates’ are about great music and flowing drinks until the early hours. With a fresh line up of live acts and DJs every week, Pergola Lates is the place for a proper party on the Wharf.

Basketball: Open daily from 12 – 9pm and free to use, Canary Wharf’s 3 x 3 basketball court has been designed by Yinka Ilori and is unique to Canary Wharf. Fusing British and Nigerian heritage, the court is an eye catching and vibrant backdrop for a game of basketball.

Short Story Stations: Bringing literature to unexpected places, a series of vending machines can be found dotted around the wharf, complete with touch free sensors. Simply select the length of the story and the dispenser will print one from classic or new writers on eco friendly paper. The Short Story Stations can be found in Jubilee Place, Canada Place and Crossrail Place Roof Garden.

Sculpture Exhibition: Helaine Blumenfeld’s ‘Look Up’ sculpture exhibition gives an unrivalled opportunity to view the artist’s impressive work in the context of exterior architecture as well as carefully designed outdoor spaces. Work on display dates from 1993 to 2019 and is free to enjoy around Canary Wharf.

Camile Walala Bridge: Created for the first ever London Mural Festival in September 2020, Camille Walala’s ‘Captivated by Colour’ artwork reimagines the Adam Plaza Bridge with enchanting geometric shapes and every aspect of the colour wheel. When exploring by foot, visitors can enjoy a walk along the bridge complete with an optical patter that shrinks and elongates as it moves across the bridge.

Children’s Art Trail: For little ones, the Children’s Art Trail features 12 pieces of art chosen to inspire young minds, plus a handy map to show where to find them. The artworks are a selection of over 75 permanently on display all over the Estate, both outside and indoors.

Ping Pong: Open daily at Bank Street, Canary Wharf’s colourful competitive Ping Pong tables have been designed by Art of Ping Pong and are available to play throughout Winter. Simply bring your own bats and balls and play anytime. Space is limited and operates on a first come, first served basis.
