Cane Hill Park wins Best Completed Development 2021

Barratt David Wilson Homes and architects HTA Design LLP are celebrating success at the Housing Design Awards this year, with their Cane Hill Park development in Coulsdon, having secured a prestigious accolade in the Completed Development category. The award forms the latest in a long list secured by the housebuilder since the development launched five years ago.

Barratt David Wilson Homes was commended for its innovative design and build quality at Cane Hill Park, which sits on the 86-hectare site of the former Cane Hill Hospital. Home to 677 dwellings, including a high number of affordable family housing, Cane Hill Park also incorporates characterful green spaces and parkland into its design. Judges highlighted the high-quality finish of the development following the original masterplan, and praised the care and attention that has been paid to the housing and landscaping quality at the development.

Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director for David Wilson Kent, comments: “We are thrilled to be recognised in the Housing Design Awards this year. Cane Hill Park is truly a site in the making, having been identified for redevelopment 20 years ago. The development’s progress since then is nothing short of impressive, with our hard work culminating in a bespoke residential neighbourhood that truly reflects the needs of local buyers.”

Kimberley Benson, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt Southern Counties, comments: “Since the day it launched, Cane Hill Park has remained an iconic development in the eyes of buyers and judging panels alike. Our innovative and community-oriented design ensures that the development stands out from the crowd, which is why we are proud to have once more won a Housing Design Award for this site.”

The Housing Design Awards were created to champion quality build in post-war Britain, and include a panel of judges from some of the most prestigious bodies in the industry including representatives from the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government; Homes England; Greater London Authority; Department for Health and the National House Building Council.

Simon Toplis at HTA Design LLP, comments: “The Housing Design Awards are one of the industry’s most respected accolades and are recognised by all five of the most prominent professional institutions. All major sites come with their own architectural challenges, so it is extremely rewarding for the results of our hard work to be recognised at these prestigious awards. A key part of our design is the integration of greenspace and parkland with the wider scheme, connecting homes with nature and the outdoors our design supports the natural environment and wellbeing of residents. By bringing nature home we have created a community where children can play and families socialise while reconnecting with the outdoors on their doorstep.”
