CAVITA CELEBRATES DAY OF THE DEAD

Thriving Mexican restaurant Cavita has proudly established itself as a leader in authentic Mexican cuisine, since opening in May 2022. Located on Marylebone’s Wigmore Street, Cavita – along with El Bar De Cavita – will be celebrating Día de los Muertos from 29th October to 2nd November, with one-off special dishes, drinks and traditional decorations. A final party will take place in the hidden bar on Saturday 2nd November.

To honour this all-important Mexican holiday, Cavita is offering two dish specials that highlight the restaurant’s commitment to the ethos of indigenous Mexican ancestors — key inspirations behind Chef Adriana Cavita’s craft. These will run for five days only, bringing the spirit of Día de los Muertos to life through food that celebrates both heritage and heart.

The first special is Mole de Olla – tender lamb cutlets accompanied by baby rainbow carrots, baby corn, and beans. This dish features a rich mole sauce made from a blend of pasilla and ancho chiles, cinnamon, garlic, and a beef shin reduction.

A Día de los Muertos celebration would not be complete without the iconic Pan de Muerto (bread of the dead), a staple of the celebrations, and a key element on ofrendas (altars) created for the enjoyment of departed loved ones. This sweet, symbolic bread is traditionally offered to the souls of the departed and is an essential part of the communal and familial offerings made during this time.

The restaurant exterior will be adorned with vibrant orange marigolds, a tradition believed to attract the souls of the deceased to the ofrendas prepared for them. These flowers symbolise purity, divinity, and the connection between life and death. As guests walk into the restaurant, the same will be displayed inside, cascading the fireplace. The celebration will also bring great music, face painting and a guest Marigold cocktail, with Pancho Datos tequila, hibiscus cordial, lime, raspberry, and a chili salt rim.

El Bar De Cavita downstairs will be joining in on the festivities with an exciting guestlist event on November 2nd, featuring a special cocktail menu, a DJ spinning from 10 PM to 1 AM, and face painting artists for guests to enjoy. Guests should keep an eye on the newsletter for sign-up details.

By sourcing high-quality ingredients directly from Mexico, Cavita ensures an exceptional experience that highlights the bold flavours and traditions of Mexican food. Fostering a sense of community in Marylebone, Cavita welcomes both locals and those from afar to celebrate an event so dear to Adriana Cavita’s heart.

Chef Patron Adriana Cavita says “At Cavita, I am privileged to represent these traditions in a modern and innovative way, while still honouring their authenticity. It brings me joy to share the love I feel for Mexican hospitality and cuisine with our patrons, and I hope to continue doing so for many years to come.”
