Celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee at award-winning country parks

Two award-winning country parks in the south-east are getting into the jubilee spirit.

Picturesque Capstone Farm Country Park and Riverside Country Park in Medway will host family-friendly celebrations to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

This year Her Majesty The Queen has become the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years of dedication and service.

Communities across the country, the Commonwealth and around the world will come together to celebrate Her Majesty’s historic reign, and Medway is celebrating this momentous occasion with a jam-packed programme of events and activities.

Visitors from outside Medway are invited to join residents in what is set to be a right royal celebration!

Visit Medway

Medway, in the county of Kent, has excellent transport links to London and across the south-east. Within just 34 minutes on the high-speed railway, you’ll arrive from central London into Medway with river views and town centres surrounded by pockets of greenery.

Medway has the equivalent of 13.3 Hyde Parks and is home to eight Green Flag award-winning parks – two of which are the country parks hosting jubilee-themed events.

Families are invited to pack a picnic and head to Capstone Farm Country Park or Riverside Country Park between 11am and 2pm, on Thursday, 2 June to take part in jubilee-themed craft activities and fun games. Don’t worry if you forget to pack a picnic – try some tasty treats from the park cafés and stalls.

Visitors to Capstone Farm Country Park will also be able to enjoy music from the Music Man Project.

Children visiting Riverside Country Park can take part in a treasure hunt for Corgis between Monday, 30 May and Friday, 3 June. Suitable for children aged two to 12. Costs £1 per map.

Discover Medway

There is so much to discover and enjoy in Medway, right next door to Capstone Farm Country Park is Chatham Snowsports Centre, which boasts the longest toboggan run in the UK. The centre offers activities for all the family, from complete beginners to those wanting to fine-tune their skills.

Medway’s town centres are a short journey away from its country parks and offer a rich variety of shops, independent retailers and a superb range of cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs.

Chatham – Medway’s emerging city centre – has two fantastic theatres, which offer shows to suit everyone’s tastes, as well as a marina and a distillery (something for the adults!).

Medway has a rich cultural heritage and boasts historic gems including Rochester Castle, the finest and tallest Norman castle keep in the country; Rochester Cathedral, the second oldest cathedral in England; Chatham’s Historic Dockyard and Fort Amherst. There is also a wonderful range of museums and galleries to explore and enjoy. Children and adults can even ride, drive and operate real diggers and dumpers at Diggerland in Strood and Gillingham is home to a fantastic BMX pump track.
