Celebrate Pride at the Royal Opera House in a family-friendly day of festival fun
Celebrating the diversity of our art forms and our fans, Family Sunday: Family Pride welcomes everyone to a fun-filled day of drama, opera and ballet. On Sunday 7 July, the Royal Opera House throws open its doors in an immersive family-friendly festival packed full of interactive activities and exclusive performances, specially curated around Pride. Tickets cost £8 to £10 per person.
The unique day will include interactive activities that welcome everyone and celebrate the triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community. Pop-up performances will take place all over the building. Trouser Power, a unique 20-minute performance, will explore gender fluidity in opera, including trouser roles. In Drag Queen Story Hour, Adam All and Apple Derrieres will encourage children to explore the fluidity of gender roles through storytelling. Also featured is Penguin, a co-production with Birmingham Rep, Cahoots NI and Prime theatre. This is a dance work choreographed by Carlos Pons Guerra and directed by Paul McEneaney which tells the story of two male penguins who fall in love at Central Park Zoo.
The day will also be brimming with participatory activities including a gender-neutral tea dance, flag and headdress-making, nail painting and dressing up.
Family Sunday: Family Pride has been specially curated alongside Gendered Intelligence to create a fun and immersive day inspired by the triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community.
