CELEBRATE VEGANUARY AND VEGANISM’S 5TH CENTURY BC INDIAN ORIGINS WITH COLONEL SAAB
Award-winning Indian restaurant, Colonel Saab invites you to celebrate Veganuary with their special, meat-free menu this month.
Starters include past favourite, Jackfruit masala tacos as well as a vegan dahi sev puri, or a refreshing Quinoa and strawberry salad.
Mains come in the form of tiffins – meals served in a beautiful tiffin tin, which is a traditional, metal box often used as a form of lunchbox in India – containing Palak tofu; Home-stye Andrea vangi curry; or Soya masala curry. Each comes with chana masala, steamed rice and roti.
For those with a sweet tooth, Raspberry Tart and Red Velvet Mini Cake are the perfect way to round off a meal that offers intense flavours
Colonel Saab is a love letter to India and owner, Roop Partap Choudhary’s parents, and serves dishes from across the continent in a culinary journey that follows in the footsteps of his father – Colonel Saab himself – as he and the family moved across India on placements with the army.
As Roop says: “It is great to see in the modern day the ideologies behind vegan diets coming back into popular culture as we all strive to be the best we can be, help others and mother nature.”
India has a history of veganism dating back to the 5th Century BCE and its cuisine still follows much of the Jain vegetarian principles, meaning a visit to an Indian restaurant during Veganuary is a nod to the traditional food served over centuries in everywhere from Royal palaces to, tiny rural villages.
We also recommend pairing your three-course meal with our wonderful 0% gin and tonics, for a detox month that still packs a flavoursome punch.
