CHOOSE TO REUSE: THE ECOVER REFILLERY LAUNCHES IN LONDON’S BOROUGH
Today, activist and sustainability advocate Camilla Thurlow launched The EcoverRefillery, a destination dedicated to fighting plastic waste with refills.
This follows research carried out by household cleaning brand, Ecover, which found the average British household throws away 7.4 plastic bottles on average each week*, the equivalent of 385 per household per year – all contributing to the 300 million tonnes of plastic thrown away every year**. It’s no surprise, therefore, that a whopping one in two people (52 per cent) feel guilty about the amount of single-use plastic they use.
There’s a desire for change, however, as one in five (19 per cent) want to improve their refilling habits this year, confessing they feel guilty or embarrassed by the amount of plastic sitting in their recycling bin. Furthermore, 66% of Brits confess that taking measures to reduce their impact on the environment puts them in a good mood.
In response to such findings, Ecover has taken over a location more synonymous with refilling than any – a fuel-guzzling petrol station – and transformed it into The Ecover Refillery; a destination where the public can come to join the Refillution® and learn how to put plastic to work.
Camilla Thurlow helped visitors make use of the Ecover refill stations and encouraged them to sign up to the Refillution®, by pledging to reuse their Ecover bottle for at least one year. With a range of Ecoverproducts and household goods available to refill, attendees can also enjoy complimentary hot drinks whilst chatting to Camilla about the importance of embracing a refill lifestyle.
Camilla comments:
“Protecting the planet is a cause close to my heart and I am always striving to reduce my negative impact where possible. Which is why I’m thrilled to be partnering with Ecover to launch The Ecover Refillery and
encourage people to join the Refillution®. As a nation, we are well versed in the importance and power of recycling and should continue to practice this in our everyday lives. However, embracing the rinse and repeat of refilling to make it a part of everyday life, as many have done with recycling, can further help to reduce the huge amount of plastic waste unnecessarily thrown away, only to end up in landfill. It’s important to me to do my bit for the environment, and by refilling and reusing where possible, I feel good knowing I’m doing my bit for future generations, too.”
