CHRISTMAS LIGHTS & FLORAL INSTALLATION BY STEMS WILDER
Thursday 25 November, 8PM Switch-On

Join us on Thursday 25 November as Brixton Village switches on its Christmas lights and unveils a special floral installation by the markets’ very own ecologically influenced florist, Stems Wilder.

Inspired by the markets’ vibrant identity, Brixton Village will see 25 large-scale wreaths adorn its iconic avenues for Christmas with bold pops of colour to match the energy of the village. Known for their sustainable ethos and delivering unconventional flower types and colour combinations, Stems Wilder opted for pink, orange, violet, white and peach hues, and a mix of Grevillea and ferns tied with velvet ribbon bows. The result is a design that blends tradition with the more unusual, celebrating the markets’ spirited heritage and culture.

CHRISTMAS GIFTS MARKETS
Every Sunday from 28 November, 11AM-4PM

Teaming up with Pop Brixton and Brixton Bid, Brixton Village is thrilled to announce a series of Christmas Gifts Markets set to take over all three venues every Sunday afternoon for three weeks, from Sunday 28 November.

With a focus on art and design, fashion and accessories, and beauty and wellbeing, the markets will showcase some of the best South London creatives, offering visitors the opportunity to find unique gifts for loved ones not found elsewhere.

Spotlighting small and emerging brands, expect to find some of the village’s favourites including ecologically influenced florist Stems Wilder; homeware store Artisan Stories who champion true traditional artisan talent, and Circus – known and loved for their curated homeware collection of vintage and one-off finds.

Mulled wine stalls will be dotted throughout to keep you warm alongside live music curated by husband-and-wife DJ duo, The Handson Family (Cyndi Anafo & Chris Ellis).

AN UNSIGHTLY EVENING WITH EBONY AND TITO : A QUEER CABARET SHOW
Saturday 27 November, 8-10PM

Brixton Village is thrilled to have partnered with queer disabled-led creative project Quiplash for an evening of queer cabaret on Saturday 27 November in the Brixton Village courtyard. Hosted by two of the UK’s most prominent visually impaired performers, Ebony Rose Dark and Tito Bone, expect songs, dancing, laughs and a few moments that will make you go ‘awww’. An evening of campy and accessible drag, the show will be relaxed with BSL interpretation and integrated audio description.

Here to take space for queer crips (quips) and further queer crip performance, Quiplash challenges perceived norms within LGBTQ+ spaces to facilitate discussion and change. Pushing boundaries of performance in more radical and inclusive ways, An Unsightly Evening with Ebony and Tito is presented in collaboration with Brixton House – the new theatre in Brixton (formerly Ovalhouse), set to reopen its doors early 2022.

LIVE MUSIC WITH BRIXTON VILLAGE LATES

A specially curated programme of live music will also launch on Thursday 25 November, with THE GRASSROOTS BAND gracing the Brixton Village Courtyard to coincide with the Christmas lights switch-on. A seasoned set of musicians who were integral to Brixton’s legendary Club 414, THE GRASSROOTS BAND are regular players at The Effra – the unofficial cultural institution for live jazz, and are set to bring a very special performance to the markets.

Brixton Village will also see an eclectic mix of live music throughout the month of December including performances from NME’s 2018 emerging artist EFFIE and versatile songstress Kadija Kamara at The Natural Bar Pop Up in the markets.

Thursday 25 November – THE GRASSROOTS BAND, 6-11PM (Brixton Village Courtyard)
Thursday 2 December – Kadija Kamara, 7-10PM (The Natural Bar Pop-Up – Granville Arcade Unit 25)

In addition to festive food options, sustainable, urban gin brand Jim and Tonic will be continuing their bar residency in Brixton Village’s courtyard with a brand new festive G&T and cocktail menu that includes Mercato Gin with Indian tonic, orange and rosemary; and the sloe gin spritz.
