City firm Laytons ETL moves to grade A headquarters with target to double turnover by 2027

The commercial law firm with international reach Laytons ETL has moved to new headquarters in the City of London as part of a strategy that aims to double its turnover by 2027.

Laytons ETL has taken a ten-year lease on an 8,388 sq ft office in the Yarnwicke development at 119-121 Cannon Street. The new office is more than 60 per cent larger than the firm’s former home at Pinners Hall on Old Broad Street.

In addition to desk space, the category A specification office at Yarnwicke includes six meeting rooms plus a mezzanine collaborative space and two dedicated rooms for online meetings.

The deal was concluded off-market, with Laytons ETL advised by the real estate consultants Jones Langham & Partners. The landlord, Riverside Capital, did not have third-party representation.

Laytons ETL currently employs around 100 people, and has plans to expand this number rapidly. In 2023 the firm achieved turnover of approximately £10 million, which it expects to exceed in 2024 as a first step to at least doubling revenues to £20 million by 2027.

Laytons ETL has a strong and growing profile in multi-jurisdiction matters, and is a longstanding member of a number of international networks of lawyers and professionals. It also has “best friend” relationships with firms within and outside these networks, in a variety of different jurisdictions.

In 2021 the firm became part of the ETL GLOBAL network of professional services businesses. Headquartered in Essen, Germany, ETL GLOBAL has member firms in more than 50 different countries worldwide, employing 24,000 people.

In 2022 Laytons ETL acquired the City-based real estate specialist Cannings Connolly. It has also seen significant organic growth since the pandemic.

Michael Kashis, Managing Partner CEO at Laytons ETL, said, “Next year will mark 150 years since Charles Stubbs Layton founded our firm. From our humble beginnings in Budge Row the firm has experienced growth, contraction, being bombed out twice during the Blitz and much more.

“We have some really ambitious growth and development plans in the pipeline, and our new offices provide a standard of accommodation that reflects the exceptional quality both of our lawyers and our clients.

“I believe this move will prove to be another landmark in our firm’s proud history, and a jumping off point for a particularly exciting few years as we fulfil our potential in the City and international legal marketplace.”
