CITY OF LONDON LAW FIRM RAISES MONEY TO HELP CHILDREN AMID CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

A law firm in the City of London has signed up to a charity will-writing campaign to help nine of the UK’s best-loved charities bounce back from the pandemic.

This year is the 1st campaign Penn Chambers Solicitors has supported Will Aid, which takes place every November.

Emma Aslett, Head of Wills and Probate department at Penn Chambers Solicitors, said: “We’re very proud to offer our support to Will Aid this year, for us it was an easy decision.

“The scheme provides people with a perfect opportunity to get a professionally written will, therefore ensuring their wishes are protected when they die.

“Additionally, it allows us to support nine important causes, whose finances have been impacted greatly as a result of the coronavirus.”

Will Aid takes place every November and sees participating solicitors waive the fee for writing a basic will and instead ask clients to make a voluntary donation to the campaign.

Last year, the generosity of solicitors and members of the public raised more than £655,000 for the nine partner charities: ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (Northern Ireland).

Peter de Vena Franks, Campaign Director for Will Aid, said: “The pandemic has highlighted how fragile life is, but almost half of UK adults are still without a will.

“We are very grateful that Penn Chambers Solicitors has joined this year’s campaign and will help more members of the public get this important document in place.

“By getting a will with a Will Aid solicitor, you will have the peace of mind that your wishes will be respected after your death.
“Your donations will also be helping the life-changing work of our nine partner charities continue, whose income has reduced significantly during the pandemic, but workload has only increased.”

Law firms across the country are being asked to join Penn Chambers Solicitors in volunteering their time and expertise in support of Will Aid.

By doing so, they will be opening themselves up to new clients who often need further services in the future.

The suggested voluntary donation for a basic Will Aid will is £100 for a single will and £180 for a pair of mirror wills.
