Comedians roast weirdest cheese-on-toast pairings from across the globe
To celebrate Cathedral City’s revolutionary plant-based alternative to cheese this Veganuary, comedic duo John Robins and Robin Allender got together to roast five of the most bizarre plant-based alternatives to cheese-on-toast combinations submitted from followers across the globe.
Cathedral City, the UK’s number one cheese brand[1], partnered with the comedic duo to celebrate its plant-based alternative to cheese range this Veganuary, showing how an award-winning product can make even the unlikeliest food pairings into something pleasantly surprising.
The duo, hosts of the popular ‘Moon Under Water’ podcast, gave their verdict on the following unusual combinations, plus the classic UK-favourite, using Cathedral City Plant Based as an alternative to cheese in the recipe:

Both John and Robin were incredibly impressed with the quality of Cathedral City Plant Based, with John calling it a triple threat in terms of taste, texture and meltability. John has been trying to go fully vegan for some time but hasn’t been able to find a suitable alternative to cheese until now, while Robin thoroughly enjoyed it despite being a dairy lover.
Besides the UK-favourite classic cheese-on-toast, using plant-based alternative to cheese, which showed you don’t need any accompaniments when the core product is so delicious, the pair’s favourite combination was oddly the grilled alternative to cheese donut with pineapple, hot sauce and spring onions, with both John and Robin unanimously giving it a big thumbs up.

The alternative to cheese and bacon crisps on toast was another popular combination, with both wanting more. The least favourite combinations included bananas and plant-based alternative to cheese-on-toast followed by strawberry jam and plant-based alternative to cheese-on-toast. They both collectively agreed that there is something disturbing about warm fruit in a savoury meal.
Cathedral City’s plant-based alternative to cheese is unrivalled, having secured awards at the Plant-Based Taste Awards 2022 as the best Plant-Based alternative to cheese, and in The Grocer Top Products Survey 2022 under the cheese category, beating all other plant-based and dairy cheese within this group.[2]
Cathedral City’s plant-based range is widely available in block, slices and grated across the UK in Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Ocado and Amazon Fresh, and will be available in Morrisons later this month.
