Council wins prestigious award for its work combatting fraud in Royal Greenwich
On Thursday 5 October, the Royal Borough of Greenwich picked up a prestigious award at a formal ceremony in Telford.
The Council was shortlisted for excellence by the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation (IRRV), for its work in Protecting the Public Purse and won!
The awards recognise the systems and controls put in place by councils to address the risk of fraud and put in preventative measures, that allow them to better detect and investigate fraud across Royal Greenwich.
Councillor Denise Hyland, Cabinet Member for Finance, Resources and Social Value said: “This award proves that we show no tolerance for the misuse of public funds. In the current climate every pound is vital to the taxpayer and our teams are demonstrating that.
“For every penny stolen, residents who are vulnerable are put further at risk, as is the integrity of the Council.”
Work highlighted as exceptional by the awards panel fell under areas of fraud prevention and detection:
Internal Audit and Anti-Fraud
