Crafts Council appoints MetSpace to operate new managed office space in its Grade II listed London home

MetSpace has announced a new partnership with the Crafts Council, the UK’s national charity for craft, to deliver thoughtfully designed office floor within the organisation’s Grade II listed home on Pentonville Road, Angel.

The partnership will see MetSpace operate the entire second floor of the historic former chapel that has served as the charity’s headquarters since 1991. The workspace, spanning 4,413 sq. ft, offers a fully self-contained office environment for a single occupier, accommodating approximately 50-60 desks alongside meeting rooms, breakout areas, and private phone booths.

The second-floor workspace is expected to be available for occupation in April 2026, following the completion of building works and final fit-out. This forms part of a wider refurbishment programme delivered in collaboration with Soul Spaces, appointed by the Crafts Council and MetSpace to modernise the historic building.

The project involved a full strip-back to shell and core, with new mechanical and electrical systems installed throughout, alongside significant accessibility improvements. Environmental upgrades, including improved thermal performance and more efficient building services, have helped the space achieve an EPC rating of B.

Founded in 1971 and granted a Royal Charter in 1982, the Crafts Council connects people with the transformative power of making, supporting craft careers and strengthening the UK’s craft ecosystem.

The Angel building continues to play a central role in this mission, housing the Crafts Council Gallery, public study spaces, a shop, café, and busy programme of learning-led activities, member events and hires.

Recent exhibitions hosted at the Gallery include Cayr Charity’s stitched self-portraits created with breast cancer patients, UCL’s Everything is Connected, and the Arab British Centre’s A River Between Mountains, exploring intersections between craft, ecology, technology, and community.

Natalie Melton, Executive Director of the Crafts Council, comments: “Craft connects people and ideas in powerful ways. With MetSpace, we’re opening doors to creativity and collaboration, making our historic home a place where everyone can experience the joy of craft.”

Ashley Diamond, COO of MetSpace, adds: “We’re enormously proud to be joining forces with the Crafts Council in one of London’s most distinctive historic buildings. The space is a perfect blend of heritage, thoughtful design, and the kind of operational detail that helps workplaces perform over the long term.”

MetSpace will manage the workspace under its usual licence agreement model, working closely with both landlord and occupier to ensure smooth day-to-day operation.
