Cuckoo cooks up same-day broadband “takeaway” for Londoners

Broadband disruptor Cuckoo, in partnership with London delivery startup Packfleet, announces today the launch of Eggspress Wi-Fi in a world-first same-day internet trial across London.

Cuckoo’s Eggspress Wi-Fi is the first same-day internet product designed to get Londoners online within hours – and within 24 hours for customers across the rest of the UK.

The cutting-edge London trial is a collaboration between two of London’s most innovative startups. Backed by the likes of JamJar and founders of Monzo and having collectively raised $16million so far, Cuckoo and Packfleet are disrupting the broadband and delivery markets to get internet into homes like never before.

Set to upend the broadband market’s notoriously slow setup processes, which are exacerbated by the regulator’s mandatory 14-day ‘cooling off’ period for wired connections, Cuckoo has devised a clever way to sidestep dreaded wait times, connecting customers quickly and easily.

Their Eggspress Wi-Fi package can be delivered anywhere in London by delivery partner Packfleet. Customers can track when their order is out for delivery in one of Packfleet’s electric vans and oversee the delivery with exact ETAs, live chat, map, and notifications from depot to doorstep – alleviating the hassle of waiting around.

With the average UK home using around 9GB of data per day, customers waiting to switch providers can easily spend £100 or more for 30 days of mobile broadband. With Eggspress Wi-Fi, customers can now pay just £40 for all-you-can-eat data and free same-day delivery included.

Alex Fitzgerald, CEO of Cuckoo, gets that most customers just want fast internet that works. Their new Eggspress Wi-Fi is made possible by the startup’s unique proprietary tech that seamlessly combines wired and wireless broadband into a single product.

Alex said: “We’ve made ordering broadband as fast and easy as ordering a takeaway from your phone.

“We’ve all been there – whether you’re moving homes or switching providers, setting up a new internet connection can be nightmarish. It might sound crazy to some of the other providers, but we think no one should have to sit around for more than 14 days for a reliable internet connection. It shouldn’t have to be such a painful or pricey process to set up a new connection – so we’re on a mission to end these antiquated methods.

Brits have been suffering with sub-par broadband products and terrible service for far too long. We’ve got big plans to shake up the market and bring customers great broadband products, flexible contracts and fair pricing – this is just the start.”

Tristan Thomas, CEO of Packfleet, sees this collaboration with Cuckoo as a perfect embodiment of both companies’ disruptive approaches to their respective markets.

He said “Packfleet and Cuckoo share a vision: we are building brands that consumers love and trust – and we’re challenging incumbents who have been long overdue some fresh competition. There is a huge opportunity in both the internet and delivery markets to bring customers a level of service and technology that they’ve never been offered before.

“It’s exciting to work with another fast-growing company such as Cuckoo and bring a world-first internet service to Londoners, and hopefully the rest of the UK soon.”
