Curious Puppets Festival Returns to Rosemary Branch next week

For the fifth year the Curious Puppets Festival returns to the Rosemary Branch Theatre.

The 2025 festival kicks off with a series of Curious Cabaret! nights, with acts created and performed by the Still CuriousCurious School of Puppetry alumni and Curious team.

Emily Morus-Jones presents two evenings of short films and a comedy lecture Puppets on Film.

Swallow’s Wings Puppetry present a unique, one-time performance of non-verbal puppet show The Lion’s Roar – a vibrant mix of puppetry, dance, and West African music.

The Ugly Duckling is adapted by Mike Shepherd founder of Kneehigh with puppets by Lyndie Wright, the founder of the Little Angel Theatre.

Curious School of Puppetry is a training programme for adults who are seeking to expand their professional work and creative practice with the art of puppetry. Founded in 2015 by Sarah Wright, the national touring school is artist-led and focuses on puppetry performance, theatre making, and collaboration.

Puppets on film with Emily Morus-Jones

An evening of short puppet films and a talk, with film, by Emily Morus-Jones. The Greatest Plans o’ Muppets and Men…A feminist puppeteer and filmmaker does geeky Dave Gorman-style stand-up in this comedy lecture contemplating the place of unfinished experiences in an artist’s evolution. Emily Morus-Jones explores the trials and tribulations of trying to make a film when your workmates can’t be trusted, or when there’s a plague locking down the entire world, or when you simply have no idea what you’re doing. Weird. Welsh. Woman.

The Ugly Duckling

When Mother Duck’s eggs start to hatch, one of her ducklings is a little bit different from the others. He’s larger, clumsier and just, well, not quite like the rest… This beautiful new show from Kneehigh’s Mike Shepherd fuses storytelling, music and puppets from Lyndie Wright (The Little Angel) to bring the beloved Hans Christian Andersen tale to life in a sweet, silly and sometimes sad show for children aged three and up.
