Davina McCall on how she doesn’t let holidays impact her strict fitness regime, as she admits she will sneak out for a 5k run before her family are up for breakfast

One of the nation’s best loved TV presenters, Davina McCall, is the latest celebrity to dazzle in Walt Disney Travel Company’s Journey to the Magic podcast series.

Joining celebrity host, Giovanna Fletcher, the pair have joined forces to discuss all things Disney. Discussing everything from their favourite holidays to their most beloved characters, the two reminisce on their magical memories with some touching reflections.

Remembering the holidays she has taken with her own children to the Disney Parks, Davina added “I don’t know what Disney does to me but it makes me incredibly emotional, so I spend my whole time in Disney crying.” Expressing how sentimental Disney is to her, Davina said “It felt like something possibly that I didn’t have when I was a little girl…it represented something that I don’t know that maybe was missing”.

Recalling her childhood memories, Davina reveals she lived with her grandparents when she was a child as her mum lived in Paris. Admitting she used to travel on a plane regularly when she was a child because her mum lived abroad, Davina remembers travelling unaccompanied from 4 or 5 years old, “I did that a lot with a little envelope around my neck with my passport”.

When explaining how she chooses to spend her holidays at the Disney Parks, Davina reveals she usually opts to stay in a villa close to the parks for her children to come and go as they please, now they are teenagers. “My goal in life for my kids to leave home and never look back because they are that confident and happy” Davina said, as the two discuss the importance of spending time with their children as they grow up.

Although Disney is hugely sentimental for Davina now, she admits that it wasn’t until she was 35 years old that she saw her first Disney movie, Cinderella. Remembering how her daughter used to wake up at 5:30am every morning, Davina says how it was her neighbour that introduced her to the Disney franchises – “I sat down with Mandy (the neighbour) and her girls, and she showed me Cinderella and it was just so innocent and sweet”.

Now a full-blown Disney fan, Davina explains how she leaves her Disney holidays feeling more at ease – “I do feel like there’s something about going to Disney if you need something in your life, if you need a bit of love, magic, happiness, you’ve had a hard time – there’s something very healing about it.”

The episode would also not have been complete without Davina’s trademark insight into how she continues her healthy lifestyle while on holiday. The fitness guru confessed that during her family holidays to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, she wakes up before everyone else to go for a 5k run – “I come back…I feel a little big smug as everybody else gets up and starts eating their breakfast and I’m thinking I’ve really earnt this.”

With fitness a high priority for Davina, a holiday at the Disney Parks satisfies more than just her travel bug, as Disney Insider, Elkie Sanchez, reveals that on average, Disney holidaymakers walk 7-8 miles per day.
