Deal or No Deal Returns with a Celebrity Special

With Big Brother and 90s game show Gladiators making a strong comeback, it’s no surprise to see that another classic is going to grace our screens once more. Deal or No Deal has been officially renewed for season two, with showrunners announcing a celebrity version. The first celebrity special aired in January 2024, with Simon Gregson starring. He won £15,300, for a charity of his choosing.

Game Shows are Making a Comeback

As time goes on, it seems that more and more shows are coming back. Interestingly, some of the more iconic shows have even inspired a number of games. You have the Deal or No Deal Live game for example, and you also have the tv-show inspired Crazy Time game as well. This game is inspired by Wheel of Fortune, but has a few unique twists. There is a giant wheel with 54 segments, along with eight symbols you can land on. With symbols that range from Cash Hunt to Crazy Time and Pachinko and the option of triggering a bonus round with every spin, it’s a favourite with those who are fans of the original TV show.

As for Deal or No Deal, which originally aired between 2005 and 2016, the show is set to be hosted by Stephen Mulhern. He’s a permanent host and after two successful pilot shows, ITV ordered 20 episodes for the reboot. Although we don’t know exactly when the new episodes are going to drop, it’s expected to be somewhere in Autumn 2024, as the show started filming in June. Stephen Mulhern has said that he’s delighted to see the show return to UK screens once more, as the response for the first season was incredible, and he really enjoyed working on it.

A Triumphant Return for a UK Favourite

Although it was expected that the show was going to do well, as the original was loved by viewers, bosses were still taken aback as to how successful the rerun was. It’s an enjoyable experience for everyone involved, and the fact that Stephen has now been taken on as a permanent host should help to keep consistency across different seasons. We don’t know who the celebrity is going to be in the special this time, but rumours are circulating the internet. Many people think that we could see the return of another Coronation Street star, and others believe that it wouldn’t be surprising to see a sports personality sit in the chair.

As for the new season of the show, it’s currently too late to apply if you’d like to go up against the banker.  The application window closed in May, but auditions are being held into November, so if you’ve been chosen as a potential candidate then you may be in luck yet. Openings for a potential third season of the show should open in the next six months. There are no requirements for who can join the show, but you do need to be over the age of 18 and living in the UK.
