Diwali at Chatora City: a festive set menu for the whole family

Chatora City, the family-run Indian restaurant near Bank, is marking Diwali with special set menus from Monday 2 to Saturday 7 November, ahead of the festival on Sunday 8 November. The menus are £50 per person for vegetarian and £55 for non-vegetarian.

Diwali is a family celebration, and the table is at the heart of it. Chatora City’s menu follows that spirit: a shared start of papad and crisps with garlic-tempered yoghurt and wild berry chutney, then a choice of starter, main and dessert.

On the vegetarian menu, starters include honey-smoked tandoori broccoli with nigella and crispy chakri, and kalonji paneer tikka. Mains include organic jackfruit biryani with aged Himalayan basmati, and baigan mirchi ka saalan: baby aubergine and padron pepper in sesame and tamarind sauce with a jaggery crumble.

The non-vegetarian menu opens with shami kebab or kasoori chicken tikka with gruyere and dried fenugreek, and moves on to Dum Pukht chicken pulao, Alleppey halibut in coconut malai with fresh turmeric and green mango, or lamb roganjosh.

Both menus finish with the sweets that belong at any Diwali table: kulfi in mango, pistachio or betel leaf, or gulab jamun in cardamom syrup with hazelnut chikki.

The menus are cooked by head chef Imamuddin Khan, whose career includes The Cinnamon Club, Kahani and Baluchi in London, and Dum Pukht in India.

“Diwali is a time for celebration so we have created a special menu with dishes that warm the heart. Take Chole bhature for example, this is something widely liked across India, and rarely found in London restaurants. We love the fact that we can bring people this taste of home at Chatora City” says Imamuddin Khan.
