The RSPCA is appealing for information after the body of a dog was found in the Hertford Union Canal close to Bethnal Green and Bow.

Members of the public reported seeing the adult female bulldog today (4 July).

The body of the brown and white dog was seen floating in the water close to docked boats on the Old Ford Road side of the canal, opposite Chisenhale Road.

RSPCA Animal Rescuer Officer Owen Courtney is now appealing to people in the local area for information.

Owen said: “This was a very upsetting discovery for people to make and I’m concerned about how the dog’s body came to be in the canal like this. At this stage it’s difficult to tell when and how the dog died.

“The dog is not microchipped, so I’m keen to find out more information from anyone who might have information about her. I can be contacted in complete confidence on our Inspector’s appeal line number on 0300 123 8018.”
