DRAG & QUEER ARTS SHOW “BOULANGERIE” RETURNS TO AN OUTDOOR LOCATION ON 16 OCTOBER
After the Time Out Award-nominated online festival in May 2020 that showcased 40 drag and queer artists from across the world, it’s time for a grand re-opening, darlings! “Boulangerie” is returning to London with a live show in a secret outdoor venue in North London on 16 October at 6pm BST. In accordance with current guidelines and safety measures, tickets are available for purchase on OutSavvy in groupings of two, four, and six by table from £10/person.
The venue address, closest to the Tottenham Hale station on the Victoria line, will be released to everyone with a ticket the day of the show at 9am BST via email.
If you’ve never been, Boulangerie is an evening for showcasing queer artists of all different concentrations, performance styles, and forms of expression. The priority is giving the artist a safe space to try out whatever they like. And that is why Boulangerie is an unpredictable evening of queer performance, gathering, and revelry that centers around giving liberated and protected space for creation.
The star-studded line-up of queer excellence for October’s big return includes London’s queen of a thousand faces Charity Kase, sword-swallowing poet and singer Missa Blue, international burlesque and cabaret star Smashlyn Monroe, and powerhouse creative “drag thing” Cyro. Alongside the core line-up, a number of open mic slots will be made available to any and all queer artists who have something they’d like to share.
If you are a queer artist of any sort (drag not compulsory) and looking to try out something new, please submit an act proposal and little bit about yourself to [email protected]. This can be spoken word, live singing, reading of written work, or anything that might be presentable onstage. If you are a writer, you may even bring in someone else to read your work. Priority will be given to non-binary, trans, queer BIPOC artists, drag kings, AFAB/female-identifying artists, and/or those with limited stage experience.
Alternatively, you can donate to www.paypal.me/boulangerieshow to support the show, and there are “Stream From Home” tickets available for anyone self-isolating or unable to attend in person for £5. All donations will go toward supporting artists on the line-up whose incomes may be heavily affected from lost work.
Although this is being marketed as a “secret outdoor location”, please be assured that this venue is a well-equipped to deal with current government mandated guidelines to ensure COVID-19 safety provisions. Tables of larger than 6 will not be permitted, and once you are seated, you will be asked to remain in your seat for the duration of the performance and not to change tables. This will ensure that everyone present sticks to their bubbles and does not put themselves, or other audience members, at risk. Table service, sanitizer/cleansing, and distancing are crucial to keep yourselves and others safe. Please wear a mask when you are not seated or using the toilets. If you are exhibiting symptoms of any sort, please stay home and keep others safe. For additional questions or inquiries, please do not hesitate to ask.
Boulangerie is not your average drag show! It’s a monthly queer variety show usually held at The Glory, one of East London’s premiere performance venues, and is recommended by Time Out, QX Magazine, and more. If you’ve never been to Boulangerie, it is an evening for showcasing queer artists of all different concentrations, performance styles, expressions, backgrounds, and objectives. Expect lip-syncs, original music, dance, spoken word, and more.
