E-ACT City Heights Academy partner with Mentivity

A group of Year 9 students from E-ACT City Heights Academy in Lambeth (part of E-ACT,a family of 28 academies) took part in a workshop with Mentivity this month.

Mentivity provides intergenerational mentoring through education and supports young people, families, schools and the wider community to enhance social cohesion, social mobility, improve educational outcomes and raise aspirations for young people. The organisation was named National Mentoring Programme of the Year at the inaugural National Mentoring Awards in 2019.

Along with representatives from Mentivity, people from the Foot Locker Foundation also came along to the academy for the session, as they are helping to fund the organisation.
With support from the Community Empowerment Program, Mentivity will be delivering 14-week programming sessions to 100 young people ages 11-14 in two local schools. These sessions will incorporate Muay Thai and yoga, mindfulness and mentorship.

Comments from some of the students that took part in the session included:

” I really like taking part in Mentivity because it has helped me with my confidence and I like taking part in new activities. ”

” This project has taught me to be calm and that you can do different things in life instead of doing the same thing. I really like it because we do different things in there.”

“I really like Mentivity because it’s very active and engaging and gives people a chance to learn new things.”

“I really like Mentivity because it helps me to relax with the meditation and the Muay Thai help me to stay focused and all together it helps me to stay focused, behave more, and be nice to people.”
Mr Marvin Charles, Headteacher at E-ACT City Heights Academy said:

“I want to say a big thank you to Mentivity for taking the time to visit City Heights and for all the work they are doing with our students. It’s great to hear such brilliant feedback from the young people that attended the recent session and I know they are going to benefit hugely from this mentoring.”

Tom Campbell, CEO of E-ACT said:

“It’s great to hear that City Heights will be working closely with Mentivity, this is exactly the sort of partnership that the trust has in mind when it comes to our Opening Minds Opening Doors strategy.”
