Edinburgh Fringe award nominees Crybabies are bringing their debut show to London’s Soho Theatre

Buckle up for the only show to have survived a World War II bomb AND a global pandemic. Join Ed Jones (handsome), James Gault (tall), and Michael Clarke (?) for Crybabies’ Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominated debut hour of surreal comedy, action, singing, dancing, rats, crisps, and concerns of the heart. Brace yourself for an offbeat adventure through the seductive waters of World War II, truly the Godfather Part II of world wars.

Following a sell-out run in January 2020, extra shows were curtailed by a 70 year-old unexploded world war II bomb (possibly the worst judged PR stunt in history) and the small matter of a global pandemic. Now Danger Brigade returns to Soho Theatre for one last ride.

After a hugely successful Edinburgh Fringe debut, the show’s masterminds, sketch troupe Crybabies, were nominated for Best Newcomer at the Dave Edinburgh Comedy Awards. A hurtling, barmy, narrative-driven suicide mission through deepest, darkest Nazi Germany, Danger Brigade is abounding in absurdism, surreal comedy, action, singing, dance, rats, crisps, and concerns of the heart (naturally). Expect skeleton armies, football tragedy, and a whole host of father issues.

Crybabies is made up of Michael Clarke, Ed Jones and James Gault. They met during their first year at The University of East Anglia and went on to cumulatively be selected for the BBC New Comedy Award, reach the finals of both the Amused Moose and Hackney New Empire comedy competitions and act alongside Tim Key, Martin Freeman and Lee Mack. In summer 2019, armed with only a suitcase of props and a bedsheet, they set up camp in a restaurant basement and managed to produce one of the breakout word of mouth hits of the Edinburgh Festival.

Michael Clarke is a comedian, actor and writer. His surreal and theatrical performances have earned him a place in the final of numerous competitions and his 2018 Fringe debut received 5-star reviews, performing to sold-out audiences. He has starred in Simon Blackwell’s Breeders on Sky One and will appear in Neil Gaiman’s upcoming Netflix series The Sandman.

Ed Jones is an actor, writer and musician whose screen credits include White Gold, Tracey Ullman’s Show and Flaps for Comedy Central. As a writer, his work has been performed at the Southwark Playhouse and Waterloo East Theatre and you can watch his online characters on Instagram @edjonesuk.

James Gault is a clown and writer who trained at the esteemed Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris. He has performed internationally, starred alongside Lee Mack in Murder They Hope for UKTV Gold and will feature in the upcoming series of Afterlife on Netflix.
