Everest Inn’s Executive Chef Shanker Pandey Shines on BBC’s “Rick Stein’s Food Stories,”
Last week, award-winning Executive Chef Shanker Pandey of the Everest Inn restaurant chain brought the rich heritage and vibrant flavours of Nepalese cuisine to BBC Two’s Rick Stein’s Food Stories, where he shared his passion for Nepalese cooking, cultural roots, and family recipes passed down through generations. Host Rick Stein visited Everest Inn’s sister branch in Ashford, Kent, where Chef Pandey prepared traditional Nepalese chicken-filled dumplings, known as momo – a popular street food in Nepal stemming from the 1500s.
On the show, Chef Pandey spoke about his dedication to preserving Nepalese culinary traditions, including influences from his late grandmother, while demonstrating the artistry of making momo. Stein described the dish as “exquisite, with great spices.” Chef Pandey guided Stein through the intricate process, highlighting the skill and authenticity that goes into each dumpling. This recognition marks a significant achievement for the Everest Inn family, honouring their commitment to bringing authentic Nepalese flavours to a wider audience in the UK.
Everest Inn Blackheath was the second restaurant in the chain, opening in 2005. Located on Montpelier Vale and overlooking the Heath, it has become an integral part of Blackheath’s dynamic dining scene. Over the years, the restaurant has earned several prestigious awards, including the Asian Curry Awards and London Curry Awards, further establishing its reputation for quality and authenticity.
Together with owner and General Manager Yadav Bhandari, Head Chef Ram Bhandari, Chef Pandey and the dedicated team have built one of Blackheath’s most celebrated restaurants, where the menu is inspired by the authentic flavours and spices of Nepal, including the must-try momo.
