EXHIBITION OF ICONIC POP CULTURE PHOTOGRAPHY LAUNCHES IN EAST LONDON

A new public exhibition of iconic pop culture photography launched today at East London art gallery Electric, to celebrate the gallery’s unique collaboration with the Getty Images photo archive.

The ELECTRIC x Getty Images Gallery exhibition showcases more than 25 of history’s most acclaimed photographers, including Hollywood portrait photographer, Michael Ochs, and features images of Muhammad Ali, The Beatles, and Marilyn Monroe, and many more.

The centrepiece of the exhibition is GOSSIP – an exclusive new retrospective of Slim Aarons, who documented the 1970’s glitterati, curated by Electric founder Jai Francois.

The exhibition marks the launch of an exclusive partnership between Electric and Getty Images Gallery – bringing one of the world’s largest contemporary and iconic photography collections to East London and Essex.

In addition to the works on display there will be a further large collection of online exclusives, not available in the gallery.

Jai Francois says: “The iconic works on display capture six decades of timeless 20th Century moments, and showcase the brilliance of some of history’s most talented and visionary photographers.

“From the shot of Bobby Moore holding the World Cup aloft, to Bob Marley’s captivating stage presence, the sense of time, place and feeling they inspire means these important cultural moments will live forever.

“The iconography of these images connects us to our own cultural past, which is why these prints have become so collectible for those wanting to start investing in art, and investors should expect this to continue this upwards trend.”

On the exclusive Getty partnership, Francois added: “We are delighted to be working with Getty. I’ve admired and collected works from their photographers over the years and it’s thrilling to see their work on the walls of the gallery.

The exhibition is open to the public from June 24th to July 17th at Electric Gallery, South Woodford, London.
