Nigel Farage says he disagrees with Professor Peter Fonagy and that diagnosing children with mental health problems such as ADHD risks giving them a victim mentality.

Speaking on GB News, he said: “Who is this bloke? What the hell is he on about? There were 16-year-olds in the war, First World War, Second World War, kids much younger than 16 working down the pit or being put up chimneys.

“All right, I get it. Since the 1960s, anyone born in that period has been relatively lucky.

“But the idea that somehow today 16-year-olds face unique challenges and that justifies a near 30% increase in medication for ADHD amongst young people.

“I think it’s the biggest load of nonsense I’ve ever heard in my whole life.
“We’re not downplaying genuine mental health, and all of us know someone in our families or close that genuinely have serious mental health problems.

“Do you know what worries me? You tell a, 15-year-old, 16-year-old kid, you’ve got ADHD, you’ve got to take these tablets. They’re being told they’re victims.”
