Flippin’ Heck! Bankside’s Pancake Day Race is Back!

Back by popular demand, Better Bankside’s Pancake Race returns for the first time since the pandemic.

Taking place on Shrove Tuesday (21 February) between 12pm and 2pm, teams of local businesses are invited to head to the 100 year-old Marlborough Sports Garden to take a break from their working day and have some flippin’ fun!

The pancake race will see up to 20 teams of four compete in pancake relay races through the gardens, which will be commented on by local area expert, Mr Londoner.

The winning team will win a pancake feast at Flat Iron Square’s
Where
The Pancakes Are, while participating teams will also receive a free pancake at
Crêpes
à la carte, who will be stationed at Marlborough Sports Gardens on the day, selling their pancakes from 11.30am-1.30pm.

Nicole Gordon, CEO of Better Bankside said: “It’s brilliant
to see the pancake day race return to Bankside again after pausing for the pandemic. This event has always been hugely popular with our local businesses and is a great way for everyone to take a break from the daily grind and have some fun with their colleagues. We are thankful to Bankside Open Spaces Trust for letting us host this event on Marlborough Sports Gardens’ turf – a recreational area that provides much-needed access to physical activity, sport, and leisure pursuits in the Bankside neighbourhood.”

The cost to enter the pancake day race is £25 per team, 100% of which will go to London charity
Plan Zheroes, which works with businesses across the capital to redistribute surplus food to local charities and community groups.

Chris Wilkie, Co-founder, Plan Zheroes said: “We are very grateful
to Better Bankside for all the support they give us. Plan Zheroes inspires local businesses to donate their surplus food to charities in the community. The money raised from this event will help us increase our reach and encourage more businesses and charities
to help us get more food to people who need it most.”

Pancakes from the races will be composted by Recorra, the Business Improvement District’s recycling partner, who work with Bankside businesses to help them and the district
reduce their impact on the environment.
