Former HMS President Mooring License near Blackfriars Bridge Foreshore for sale
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, is marketing an exciting central London opportunity, to acquire a well-positioned mooring licence along the Thames. With the much-vaunted London “super sewer” Thames Tideway Tunnel nearing completion, the mooring which sits next to the new Blackfriars Foreshore, will become available to use again by mid-2025.
The world-famous River Thames runs through the heart of London and is a focal point for much of the city’s commerce, history, culture and tourism. This rare opportunity to acquire a sought-after mooring license on the Embankment to the west of Blackfriars Bridge offers a new owner the chance to develop an exciting new waterfront venue between Tower Bridge and Westminster. The location is set to be further enhanced with a new foreshore area projecting into the river which will introduce a terrace, café and al fresco seating.
Up until 2016 the site remained home to HMS President, the former Royal Naval base ship which was converted into a well-known and landmark floating events venue, with capacity for 350 patrons throughout its licensed restaurant, bar and function areas. In 2016 the ship was moved from her berth to make way for works on the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
The mooring is held by way of an Annual River Works License agreement from the Port of London Authority, which provides permission for the permanent mooring of a vessel and the construction of a floating pontoon of up to 262 feet in length, with offers in excess of £1.75 million invited.
Simon Chaplin, Senior Director of Corporate Pubs & Restaurants in Christie & Co’s Hospitality team is handling the opportunity. He comments, “We have dealt with a number of venues along the Thames in the past and know how popular they can be. It is often the mooring that holds the key and this opportunity gives new owners the prospect of either basing a new river service from here or bringing in a vessel to provide a hospitality venue such as a floating fine dining restaurant or busy bar. Whatever the outcome it will enjoy spectacular views down the Thames, one of the worlds most famous rivers.”
