The iconic London department store Fortnum & Mason has unveiled its annual Christmas window display at its Piccadilly store. This year’s theme captures the nostalgic magic of Christmas at home, with a Fortnum’s Christmas fairy bringing each
scene to life with a wave of her wand.
This year’s theme celebrates the warmth, nostalgia, and joyful anticipation of Christmas at home. Each
of the seven windows reveals a different room in a house dressed for the season, where glistening lights and lovingly handcrafted details capture the cherished traditions of a Fortnum’s Christmas. Appearing in each scene, the Christmas fairy waves her wand
to illuminate trees, garlands and candles, bringing a little festive magic to every room.
Across the windows, each scene captures a different moment of Christmas, from a hamper waiting on the front
porch to a kitchen filled with festive preparations and a table dressed for a feast. The beloved Fortnum’s mice also return, busily working behind the scenes in each window, where they can be spotted leaving tiny footprints in flour, playing chess with currants
and cranberries, and even pulling a Fortnum’s Christmas cracker.
The Fortnum’s Christmas fairy has been brought to life by illustrator Olaf Hajek, who also created the
colourful cast of animal characters found across Fortnum’s Christmas range. Every element has been carefully crafted, from the wood furniture that gives each room its depth and character to the wallpaper and wrapping paper featuring designs from Fortnum’s
festive packaging. In one of the windows, two jigsaws sit amongst toys, one with 181 pieces to mark Fortnum’s Piccadilly address and the other with 319 pieces to celebrate its 319-year history.
Inside the store, the nostalgic magic of Christmas continues as Fortnum & Mason brings a single colour
scheme to its Christmas decorations for the first time in its history. A palette of gold and Champagne runs throughout the store, with warm tones and glistening details capturing the same welcoming glow as the windows.
Sallie Smith, Fortnum & Mason’s Head of Visual Presentation says “Our Christmas windows this year celebrate
the warmth and nostalgia of Christmas at home, with our Fortnum’s fairy and mice bringing these traditions to life with a little Christmas magic. We wanted each scene to capture what makes this time of year so special, bringing back fond Christmas memories
and inspiring new ones.”
Guests are invited to view the window display as Fortnum & Mason begins its late-night shopping hours.
