This World Mental Health Day (10th October) FRAMELESS unveiled its latest residency, In Bloom: An Emotional Topography – a creative collaboration between digital artist Cem Hasimi and DJ/producer Woody Cook.
The original partnership between Hasimi and Cook merges art and sound, taking the audience on an emotional journey, providing a new way to see and reflect on their feelings. As part of FRAMELESS’ commitment to help visitors ‘Feel More’ through art, this residency will highlight the powerful role creativity and the arts can play in uplifting, connecting, and inspiring people of all ages.
Running for three months, In Bloom: An Emotional Topography transforms psychological states and invisible emotions into vivid landscapes that shift into portraits, giving audiences a new way to see and reflect on their feelings.
Hasimi’s digital work, inspired by Pointillism and Romanticism, will use dots and organic forms to show how our emotions shape both the environments around us and our sense of self. Invisible emotions have been transformed into evocative landscapes – jagged for anxiety, muted for depression, radiant for joy – offering a powerful exploration of how our inner states shape both our environment and ourselves.
To heighten the immersion, the visual work will be paired with an original, powerful soundscape composed by Woody Cook. Music is often used as a tool for creating an emotional response and research has found that different frequencies can trigger distinct emotions and support mental wellbeing: 528 Hz is linked to love, 540 Hz to joy, and 600 Hz to peace. Healing tones like 174 Hz and 285 Hz are associated with relaxation and even cellular repair, while 741 Hz is thought to strengthen intuition and higher consciousness.
Cook has created an immersive soundscape for Hasimi’s artwork, tapping into a range of frequencies in an aim to evoke deep emotions, offer moments of release, reflection, and even healing, and show how sound can both mirror and influence our inner states.
Woody Cook said: “Music and art has a unique way of reaching emotions we can’t always put into words. Collaborating with Cem and FRAMELESS on this residency has been an incredible experience, helping the audience fully immerse themselves and turning often invisible feelings into sound and visuals that encourages them to look inwards and reflect on their emotions is a really special thing.”
The new residency forms part of FRAMELESS’ ongoing residencies programme championing up and coming artists and providing them with a platform to showcase their artwork to new audiences. It will be open to the public in FRAMELESS’ fifth gallery Blank Canvas for a three-month period and entry will be included within the standard ticket price.
