Free event in the City: The Culture Mile puts a modern spin on a medieval summer fayre

Following a successful debut last year, the Culture Mile is back with its ‘Midsummer Fayre’, transforming three iconic City locations from 7th to 9th July.

The event is a modern twist on a traditional medieval fair, featuring live entertainment, immersive workshops and seasonal food and drink, all inspired by the Culture Mile’s rich heritage.

“The Grand Opening”, Tuesday 7th July | 11am–3pm, St Alphage, London Wall Place

Complimentary strawberries and cream, traditional lawn games, giant ring toss challenge, alcohol-free refreshments, roaming Urban Jesters and free food and drink tokens for later festival events.

“The Main Revelry”, Wednesday 8th July | 5pm–9pm, Postman’s Park

Live harp performances and traditional minstrels, roaming magician Fergus Flanagan, birds of prey displays, free flower crown workshops, circus skills sessions, artisan pies and summer refreshments.

“The Final Feast”, Thursday 9th July | 5pm–9pm, Finsbury Circus Gardens

Sausage Dog Walk and Dog Show, live music from The Roaming Folks and Some Voices Choir, Bridgerton-inspired dance workshops, The Poetry Takeaway, flower crown making, a traditional hog roast and summer refreshments.

The Fayre forms part of Culture Mile’s “Move the Mile” summer programme, encouraging people to “move through history” by exploring the City’s open spaces and unique traditions.

Just as a reminder there’s also a free Barbican event: Discover The Veggery, a new community garden in the City

London Festival of Architecture may have officially come to a close, but Londoners can still experience the festival through The Veggery, a new community garden and installation in the City of London as part of the LFA and Culture Mile BID’s Seeds in the City initiative (imagery here).

A programme of workshops, talks and activities will be held at the Veggery in partnership with the City of London School for Girls (who have also designed the stained-glass panels of the structure), architectural ceramicist Charlotte Moore, and local community groups including the Barbican Horticultural Society. The sessions are designed to help visitors learn practical food growing and craft skills, while creating opportunities for engagement and interaction with green spaces in our urban environment.

Designed by Studio Folk and RASKL, The Veggery is the winning proposal from 50+ entries to a design competition reimagining a temporary community space within the Barbican. The installation creates an inviting, greenhouse oasis for people to come together, relax among the planting, and take a restorative break from the surrounding City.

Dates: 3rd July – September 2026
