As students return to university and school this September, Marugame Udon is helping them to discover freshly-made udon noodles. From 10th – 30th September 2024 Marugame Udon will be holding an Instant Noodle Amnesty, inviting the students to swap instant noodles for fresh udon at its restaurants, with one lucky swapper even winning free udon for a year!*

Students are well-known for their love of instant noodles, being cheap, quick to make and satisfying, however by going for an instant fix, students are missing out on the fresh, hand-made udon that’s available at great value at Marugame Udon, from just £4.95.

To show these noodle lovers what they’re missing and help them to discover the deliciousness of freshly made udon; Marugame Udon is inviting students to swap instant noodles for fresh udon at its restaurants during the month of freshers’. Students can enter any of the nine Marugame Udon restaurants across London and Reading and swap a packet of instant noodles for a bowl of hand-made udon noodles.** The instant noodle packets collected by Marugame Udon during the Instant Noodle Amnesty will be donated to local food banks. Last year, Marugame Udon contributed over 2,000 donations to food banks in London and Reading through the Instant Noodle Amnesty. Building on this success, it has set an ambitious goal of 5,000 donations for 2024, aiming to make an even greater impact.

All students need to do in order to be able to exchange instant noodles for fresh udon is to sign up to the Marugame Student Club and show a valid student ID at the till. Marugame Club allows members to collect ‘bowl stamps’ on every visit to enjoy ongoing freebies, treats and rewards. It also gives new members two free tempura on signing up.

All of Marugame’s udon noodles are made fresh in-house throughout the day, using three simple ingredients wheat, salt and water. They are mixed, aged, pressed, rolled, cut, and boiled fresh for each and every bowl in the Marugame way. This traditional recipe creates a chewier ‘mochi mochi’ texture which is a signature of Sanuki style thick udon noodle.

Marugame Udon has bundles of freshly made and budget-friendly Japanese dishes to suit all tastes.
