GRENFELL ATHLETIC SET TO LAUNCH NEW KIT INSPIRED BY THE DREAMS OF CHILDREN IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

With the Sunday league season in full swing, Grenfell Athletic FC has dropped its latest ‘dragon swoosh’ kit, co-designed by children living within the local community. The Nike kit, available to purchase from KitLocker, has been carefully crafted using bespoke drawings collected this summer at North Kensington Community Festival, with each young person sharing their career aspirations for when they grow up.

These include the likes of identical twins Taya and Layla, aged 13. The story of these young girls is incredible. Growing up within spitting distance of Grenfell Tower, after a tough start in life, they were raised by their grandmother until she recently passed away. Now, their uncle is working hard to gain full custody of the girls to ensure they can be looked after by their family moving forward.

When studying the shirt, it becomes quickly apparent that these young people want to make a difference, with ‘World justice’, and ‘taking care of my mum’ listed as future aspirations. Young Freya, aged 12, simply said she wants to ‘make the world a better place’, there are some kids featured with loftier dreams, including Anita, 10, who wants to be the ‘first astronaut singer in the world’.

In the case of Taya and Layla, these beautifully positive young ladies hold dreams of becoming a vet and an estate agent, both seemingly achievable with the right support as they grow into young adults. In the coming months, Grenfell Athletic will use its network of supporters to set up experiences for the girls in these fields to bring their dreams one step closer to reality.

Other kids who have shared their drawing skills for the shirt include Yusuf (aged 15), who selflessly holds dreams to ‘take care of my mum like she takes care of me’.

More than five years after the tower fire, the Sunday league football club, which was set up in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, has gone from strength to strength as it continues to offer support and hope for the local community. Recent developments include the launch a women’s team and the announcement that Everton Assistant Head Coach, Chris Jones has come on board as the club’s new part-time Technical Advisor.

Not only that, but several Nike ambassadors will also look to share their support for Grenfell Athletic by pulling on the new kit, these include Chelsea FC stars Mason Mount, Ben Chillwell, Trevor Chalobah, and rapper AJ Tracey.

Speaking on the new release, Rupert Taylor, Founder of Grenfell Athletic said: “At Grenfell Athletic, we believe that children’s dreams for the future shouldn’t be dictated by where they live or their socio-economic circumstances. We want them to dream big, which is why we wanted to give young people from North Kensington the chance for their dreams to be included on our new kit. When both our teams proudly pull on the shirt every Sunday throughout the season, they are manifesting those dreams, sharing them with the world.”
