Have Your Say on Local Improvements via the 2021 Neighbourhood Fund
Residents of the borough are being invited to take part in a survey to tell us which projects they would like to see introduced in their local area.
This year, the Neighbourhood Fund has a diverse long list of possible projects, ranging from borough-wide tree planting and playground upgrades to improvements to a horse riding centre for the disabled. The results of our survey will help to decide which projects will receive investment.
Last year, the Neighbourhood Fund approved funding for 24 different projects totalling over £565K, ranging from a wildlife corridor and smart bins to a Library of Things. One project was the repair of the Beddington Village Hall roof, giving a new lease of life to this period building, whilst the Ridge Road allotments have already had a tidy up and will soon receive their new shelter and notice boards to give the community a meeting space whatever the weather.
The Neighbourhood Fund comes from a levy that developers pay to the Council when they create new housing, flats or retail space. A portion of this money is used specifically to improve local areas in consultation with residents and in Sutton we call this the Neighbourhood Fund.
The survey is live on the Council’s consultation website – bit.ly/NeighbourhoodFund21 – for 12 weeks, from 12 July until 3 October 2021.
Councillor Manuel Abellan, Chair of the Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee at Sutton Council, said:
“The Neighbourhood Fund is a great opportunity for Sutton residents to have a say in the projects that take place in our local neighbourhoods. Whether your priority is improving parks and playgrounds, or tackling pollution, we are keen to hear what will make a difference to your area.
“We were delighted to receive so many ideas from residents and members of the Sutton community in 2020, and I am looking forward to hearing how we can make a difference next year.”
