Lakeside Shopping Centre is inviting the local community to help shape its 2026 Charity Partner of the Year, as voting officially opens to decide which shortlisted charity will receive a year-long partnership with the centre.
Following an overwhelming response to its recent call for nominations, with nearly 200 incredible entries shared, Lakeside has shortlisted four outstanding charities making a meaningful impact across Essex and Thurrock. Now, the final decision is in the hands of the public.
The four shortlisted charities are:
· Arts Outburst – A Thurrock-based organisation with a mission of “Building Creative Communities Together,” delivering inclusive arts and cultural programmes that bring people together, enhance wellbeing, and create opportunities across the local community.
· Friends of Treetops Schools – Supporting children, young adults and families within the Treetops Learning Community Trust, this charity raises vital funds for specialist resources and hosts inclusive social events for individuals with special educational needs.
· MCA Trust – A volunteer-led charity dedicated to supporting children with cancer, funding wishes, providing educational support during treatment, and improving hospital environments through toys and sensory spaces.
· Thurrock Young Carers – Offering essential support to young people caring for loved ones affected by illness, disability, autism, mental health challenges or substance misuse, including respite activities and advocacy support.
The winning charity will work in close partnership with Lakeside throughout 2026, benefiting from a dedicated programme of fundraising events, onsite visibility within the centre, and opportunities to engage with millions of visitors throughout the year.
Nancy Foster, Centre Director at Lakeside Shopping Centre said: “We’ve been truly inspired by the incredible charities nominated by our community, each making a real difference to people’s lives across the region. Narrowing it down to four finalists was no easy task. Now, we’re excited to hand the decision over to the public and give local people the chance to champion a cause close to their heart.”
Voting is now open and will close on Friday 8th May, with the winning charity set to be announced later in May.
