High-end sell-off: Mercedes and Porsches are Londoner’s most-sold used cars
The capital’s love for luxury vehicles is evolving, as new research from Carwow, the online car-changing marketplace, reveals that more Mercedes-Benzs and Porsches are being listed from sellers in London on its Sell My Car platform, compared to the rest of the UK.
In London, 13% of used cars that receive an offer to buy are Mercedes-Benz, compared to just 9% for the whole of the UK. Porsche is the third most offered-on brand in London, but only the eighteenth in the UK.
If you own one of these cars, there’s strong buyer interest with car dealers from all over the UK actively looking to purchase quality cars — creating a prime opportunity for private sellers.
With Carwow, private sellers’ vehicles are put into a daily auction, exclusively for car-dealers, ensuring broad national exposure to 5,500 professional buyers. The whole process, from valuation to sale and collection, is fast, efficient and designed to put sellers in the driver’s seat with complete control over accepting the car-dealer offers received.
The capital’s most offered-on cars:
Mercedes-Benz A-Class
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon
Porsche Macan
BMW 1 Series
Tesla Model 3
Luxe cars, luxe colours:
It’s not just the cars that ooze luxury — black is the go-to colour from sellers in London, solidifying its status as the city’s ultimate sleek shade. The black Porsche Macans and Mercedes G-Classes are among the cars most listed on Carwow’s sellers’ platform. Silver Mercedes A-Classes and grey Audi Q2s complete the top 5 most popular models for car-sellers to part with, reflecting the city’s high-end tastes.
Fuelling the shift:
Londoners are selling more petrol cars than elsewhere in the UK, with 70% of cars sold through Carwow in the capital running on petrol, compared to 61% nationwide. With the ULEZ expansion and growing interest in eco-friendly vehicles, many motorists are now considering hybrids and electric models.
Iain Reid, Head of Editorial at Carwow, commented: “London motorists are more likely to sell higher-end car brands with Mercedes-Benz and Porsche vehicles appearing much more frequently in our daily used-car auctions, compared to the rest of the UK. The great news is that this luxury supply is being met with strong demand from used-car dealers to buy, meaning these vehicles move quickly.
“With thousands of car dealers actively looking to purchase, sellers in the capital have a unique opportunity to make the most of the current market conditions. The average offer price on Carwow across all used-cars in London is £15,590, among the highest across the UK.”
If you’re looking to upgrade or simply part ways with your vehicle, Carwow helps streamline the process of selling your car to help owners get the very best deal. Last year over three million drivers valued their cars on Carwow, and we’ve supported tens of thousands of car-sellers throughout their car-changing journey. Sellers can often secure around £1,000 more than the standard part-exchange value.
