HJ Collection shortlisted among UK’s Best Enterprising SMEs

Leading nationwide property developer HJ Collection has been chosen by judges as one of the UK’s Best Enterprising Businesses.
The company, run by serial entrepreneur Reece Mennie, is among the finalists in the SME National Business Awards 2026, with winners set to be revealed on Friday 6th November.
HJ Collection was launched in 2019 and has since transformed unloved and unused commercial buildings up and down the country into affordable, sustainable and high-specification housing. Alongside rejuvenating key areas in towns and cities, their work has also helped alleviate the UK’s housing crisis – providing more homes for professionals and families.
Their innovative approach sees permitted development rights leveraged to reduce the timeline for each project, whilst their in-house turnkey solution ensures the expert team has complete oversight of each step along the way – from the initial research undertaken on a site, right through to completion.
HJ Collection has also implemented its own sustainability initiative, reusing as much of the structure of each building as possible, as well as the materials – which are placed in storage for use on a future project if unsuitable for the current development.
The business has grown substantially over the past seven years, announcing a record £120m GDV at the end of 2025, an impressive £20m above target. Investors have seen more than £32m returned to them, including those based overseas, with a 55% uplift in investment from the US during last year.
CEO and Founder Reece Mennie said: “The hard work of the specialist team has paid off, not only in the results we are seeing, but also in this recognition from the SME National Business Awards. It’s excellent to have reached the finals, showcasing that our enterprising approach places us among the most enterprising SMEs across all sectors, not just within the property sector.
“It’s thanks to the dedication and expertise of everyone at HJ Collection that we have reached the finals, and that 2026 stands to be the most successful year we have ever had. We are truly building something great, and I’m proud the judging panel have recognised that.”
