HOLY GUACAMOLE! SAM THOMPSON HELPS DORITIOS SET NEXT LEVEL RECORD SET FOR THE WORLD’S ‘GRATEST’ CHEESE PULL

Doritos has set a new record for the world’s highest ever cheese stretch. The ‘unBRIElievable’ stunt was pulled-off to celebrate International Guacamole Day (September 16th), a key ingredient to any bowl of nachos.

Doritos Dippers are designed to be thicker and crunchier – so they don’t go soggy or break when carrying serious weights of cheese, guacamole and salsa. To prove the point, Doritos set the ultimate test in extreme conditions, by creating a giant mountain of nachos measuring 16ft wide and 14ft high at the home of Britain’s favourite cheese, Cheddar.

Specially trained stunt pilots manoeuvred a helicopter over the nacho mountain, before lifting a massive 4ft nacho covered in piping hot cheese to a lofty 49ft, setting a new world record for the world’s highest ever cheese stretch.

Rob Pothier, Senior Marketing Manager at Doritos, said, “This is nacho everyday stunt, this is a Doritos world record to celebrate National Guacamole Day. The day may not be celebrated by everyone, but this is our cup final, our Christmas and our New Year rolled into one. The cheese pull was an epic display of Doritos taking nachos to the next level. This is as gouda as it gets.”

The Record Breaking Cheese Pull
To make the stunt a reality, Doritos Dippers food boffins, cheese scientists, experienced helicopter pilots, the Cheddar Gorge team and even celebrity Sam Thompson spent over a month researching, developing and training to make this record a reality.

Sam was on the ground in Cheddar Gorge, watching the record breaking nacho dunk. The presenter and podcaster said “That was absolutely epic. I’ve seen a cheese pull or two in my
time – it’s a social media phenomenon, but using a helicopter, that’s next level! It was an honour and a privilege to be in Cheddar Gorge to witness Doritos break the record for the highest ever cheese pull. I’m going to have to try and recreate this at home!”

Britain’s Cheesy Opinions

Cheese pulls have become a viral trend on TikTok, with cheese pull videos receiving over 1.5 billion views to date.

In fact, new research of over 2000 Brits released today to coincide with the record, shows over a quarter of Brits (27%) have tried one themselves, reaching an average of 13.4 centimetres in length (much shorter than the new world record of 49ft).

What’s more, one in three (33%) feel that soggy nachos are one of the most disappointing food-fails to experience at a party, and many feel that soggy nachos were one of their top culinary ‘icks’.

Incredibly, 18% would rather see a perfect nacho chip invented than a home nation winning a cup final, and almost a quarter (24%) are more interested in the invention of a sog-resistant nacho than they are in the invention of time travel.
