Housebuilder supports safer futures with donation to youth empowerment charity

Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes has recently donated £1,500 to Youth & Community Connexions in North London to support the charity on its frontline work with young people.

Youth & Community Connexions is a youth-led charity that provides support to the varied and diverse communities of North London. Established in 2008, the charity aims to support and facilitate young people and parents in several ways in response to the escalating gang violence throughout the community, providing bespoke programmes, workshops and mentoring.

The housebuilder’s donation has supported the charity with its frontline work including gang mediation, weapon collection initiatives, the delivery of positive, trauma-informed mentoring and activities designed to engage and uplift those most at risk. Youth & Community Connexions also plans to use some of the funds to help continue to create safe spaces, to provide pathways out of violence and offer real alternatives for young people.

The £1,500 donation is from The Barratt Foundation, the housebuilder’s charity partnership, which aims to support local charities and groups wherever Barratt Redrow operates across the UK.

Christopher McCoy, from Youth & Community Connexions, commented: “Supporting young people is essential in helping break the cycle of gang violence across North London, and with early intervention and positive engagement this can make a lasting difference. Thanks to Barratt David Wilson North Thames’ donation we can invest in safe spaces and workshop activities where we are able to help build stronger and safer communities for young people to feel valued and heard with the aim of choosing a better future.”

Marc Woolfe, Director of Sales and Marketing at Barratt David Wilson North Thames, added: “We are committed to investing in young people and their futures as they are the foundations of our communities. The division is pleased that our donation has supported Youth & Community Connexions in being able to provide further assistance in their work to reduce gang violence. The work that the charity carries out is truly inspiring and it is moving to see how they support young people with the aim of providing a brighter future.”
