Inside a North London maternity concierge with 2am food deliveries for pregnant women and chauffeuring expectant mums
A North London maternity concierge has spoken of how she’s helped women throughout their pregnancies – no matter how crazy the request.
Judy Goldberg, 37, became a concierge and founded Babynizer in 2015 after her own daunting and overwhelming experience as an expectant mother.
“When I was pregnant with my first child, I was overwhelmed by all the tasks, products and choices available to me,” she said. “With all of these options, I was terrified of making the wrong choices for my child and was overwhelmed by the preparation.
“I spent hours and hours researching to ensure my child was getting the best I could get them so when my second child came around I knew exactly what to do.”
Judy quickly realised her experience wasn’t a rare one as many mothers are left overwhelmed by their first pregnancy.
“I had all the knowledge of my first pregnancy so when my friends came to me I helped them make informed choices – because I had been through it all,” she said. “I realised that everyone is different, what works for me may not work for them and it’s all dependant on circumstances.
“When you research as I did, you’re just recommended what’s popular – whereas most women need and want advice from a dedicated source.”
Realising there was a gap in the market for this kind of service, Judy created Babynizer to offer bespoke and dedicated care and advice for expectant mothers.
“I started by simply advising on what to buy – what’s essential and what is not,” she said. “But soon it developed to wider a service, buying and installing products, planning for delivery and arranging the creation of a nursery.
“Since I started, I’ve had all sorts of requests and unexpected situations. I’ve had to arrange a whole nursery and everything in it within three days. I’ve sent food cravings to mothers in the early hours of the morning – a certain mother even wanted to travel to and from the hospital in style in an S-class Mercedes.
“It grew from simple advice to a full concierge service that allows them to relax – relieving the pressure that pregnancy brings.”
She added: “People are starting to discover my service, and others like it, more and more. It’s not a well-known one but it makes complete sense to those who find out about it.”
