International family law firm opens new London offices amid divorce boom

Men’s divorce solicitors, Cordell & Cordell, has opened two new offices in London following a ‘boom’ in divorce applications during the pandemic. This boom is not just applied to the London area as globally couples have been feeling the effects and have sought out legal representation like Jennifer Croker, Cordell & Cordell, as well as many others so they can start separation proceedings.

The new offices are based in Canary Wharf (Canada Square), South London, and Watford (Croxley Business Park). The international family law firm, which specialises in men’s divorce and family legal matters, also has an existing office in Cavendish Square, Marylebone, in addition to over 100 locations in the United States

The expansion comes as enquiries and applications for divorce rise following the Coronavirus pandemic. Cordell & Cordell has seen at least a 10 per cent year-on-year rise in divorce enquiries since March due to the impact of the pandemic on relationships. Many UK legal experts and Citizen Advice had predicted a surge in divorce cases due to the emotional and financial strain of the pandemic on relationships and families.

The recent rise in divorce has also been fueled, in part, by a backlog from couples who decided to postpone their application during the height of the first lockdown.

“Like many family law solicitors, we have seen a significant bump in the number of enquiries since the pandemic, with many families battling additional challenges including increased emotional strain on relationships, more challenging divorce applications and increasingly more complicated custody arrangements due to regional lockdowns” explains Cordell & Cordell divorce solicitor Stephanie Kelly.

“However our new offices in Canary Wharf and Watford have been in the works for some time before the pandemic and form part of our wider UK-wide growth strategy to further expand our reach beyond London and into key hubs in the Home Counties and the South East. We are of course delighted to be expanding our presence in the London business community and we remain committed to serving clients across the UK during this difficult time.”
