Introducing London’s First Sustainable Espresso Martini Garden
This November, Ketel One Vodka has collaborated with the team at Bourne & Hollingsworth and will be turning the spent coffee from their Ketel One Espresso Martinis into compost for an indoor garden. The Ketel One Espresso Martini Garden, a sustainability-focused month-long pop-up, will run from the 7th November and is set to educate consumers about the alternative ways to reuse and recycle their coffee grounds, in the beautifully instagrammable B&H Buildings surrounded by elegant greenery provided by The Little Botanical.
The Espresso Martini Garden will aim to raise awareness of the 500,000 tonnes of spent coffee grounds that are sent to landfill each year, whilst giving back to the environment, making our marvellous world a slightly better place, and inspiring guests to do the same at home. Further encouraging guests to be sustainable in their daily lives, for the first week at the Ketel One Espresso Martini Garden, guests who purchase two classic Espresso Martinis will receive a free Ketel One Vodka Keep Cup*.
Dubbed as one of the UK’s most photogenic bars, B&H Buildings, in collaboration with plant specialist, The Little Botanical, will be transforming their delightful bar space into an urban oasis with stylish houseplants that thrive on the coffee compost, creating an inner-city escape. With green blooms hanging down from rustic wooden ladders and vibrant succulents adorning the tables, the Ketel One Espresso Martini Garden will be the ideal destination for all espresso martini lovers. B&H Buildings takes its inspiration from the faded grandeur of a stately home, where the plants have slowly become a part of the fabric of the building – effectively bringing the outside in.
A carefully curated cocktail menu focussing on this much-loved serve will be showcased, demonstrating an array of classic and quirky takes on the iconic Espresso Martini created by the team at Bourne & Hollingsworth and Ketel One Brand Ambassador, Kate Jackson. Variations will include an indulgent Chocolate Orange Espresso Martini and a Nutty Espresso Martini, decaf options of these espresso martini serves will be available for those wanting to cut down on the caffeine. Alongside this, the additional spent coffee grains used throughout the pop-up will be donated to the 100% Natural and Organic Skincare brand UpCircle, to be put to good use in their circular economy skincare line. Up Circle have a range of beauty products created with repurposed coffee grounds collected from London cafes.
For an opportunity to personalise their cocktails, consumers will be able to visit the ‘Espresso martini garnish station’ allowing them to add their bespoke touch to their drinks. Alternative serves using spent coffee will be available for guests wanting to try something different.
What’s more, Ketel One and Bourne & Hollingsworth are partnering with well-known gardener Julius Roberts, who focuses on sustainable living to ensure we are all doing our best to give back to our marvellous world. Julius Roberts says; “Used coffee grounds are a marvellous natural compost adding organic material to the soil for increased water retention while acting as a slow-release fertiliser. They also benefit microorganisms in their symbiotic relationship with the roots enabling plants to thrive. In the increasingly complex world of sustainability, it’s important to remember that as an individual the changes we make in our lives do make a difference. Something as simple as reusing coffee grounds represents a much bigger attitude shift in the fight against waste. I hope that the Ketel One Espresso Martini Garden will inspire people to make such changes and better the future of our marvellous planet.”
The Ketel One Espresso Martini Garden at B&H Buildings will host masterclasses giving practical advice to repurpose spent coffee grounds and make sustainable cocktails that will impress guests at home.
