IS CHRISTMAS REALLY THE RIGHT TIME TO SELL YOUR HOME?

PEOPLE looking to sell their home have just 24 hours to put it on the market if they want to tie up a deal in time for Christmas.
Experts say Friday is the cut-off day to finalise a house sale before December 25.
Property specialist Jonathan Rolande said there are pros and cons of trying to buy or sell at this time of year.
Mr Rolande, the founder of House Buy Fast, said: “There is one reason people looking for their next home should brave cold, dark evenings to get out and look at property – the opportunity to pick up a bargain is greatly increased. That’s because, with so many fixated on Christmas, the market always goes quieter in the run up, and then activity booms on Boxing Day, as millions browse portals for somewhere to buy. The property market is all about supply and demand, and when demand is lower, those who need to sell will be much more receptive to an offer.”
But Mr Rolande said there are problems with the market at this time of year too.
He warned: “Sellers who may have been languishing on the market for the late summer and autumn may well find that the Christmas season adds some sparkle to their marketing. Although there are fewer buyers around, properties that wow with the Christmas-feel will do far better.
“A cosy open fire has little appeal in summer months but in November and December, it will make the home much more desirable. Savvy sellers use this to their advantage, creating a homely feel – think piles of firewood, winter warmth, winter-scented candles and bright winter flowers in the garden.
“Buyers purchase with their head and their heart – making a home a winter wonderland will help no end.”
