On Saturday 16th May at the Saffron Gallery in London, Islamic Relief UK will launch their annual women-led fundraising campaign, “EmpowerHer” to help vulnerable women across the world build a means to make a living.
This year, the campaign launch will be supported by family-owned business Eid Party. The two organisations will be launching the event at Eid Party’s flagship event, The Modest Collective at the Saffron Gallery in Stratford, London. Islamic Relief will be promoting the EmpowerHer campaign at the female-focused, curated event.
The campaign is dedicated to help women through supporting sustainable practices, by offering livelihood kits, mentoring and skill-based training, and essential tools, support and resources to start a business. The goal is to inspire and provide women with economic independence, dignity, and leadership in their communities.
EmpowerHer has helped many women transform their lives such as Zainab, aged 50 in Jordan. When Zainab’s mother’s health deteriorated, she was forced to leave her job to provide full-time care. As an unmarried woman with caregiving responsibilities, her options for stable employment became extremely limited.
Zainab took a financial management training course supported by Islamic Relief’s EmpowerHer project. She said the training was “transformational”, as it helped her to launch her new business, which today is a successful grocery caravan.
This year the campaign will focus on widows in Jordan with tailored toolkits and mentoring to help them build home-based, sustainable businesses, and in Ethiopia by helping women with practical skills and mentoring to grow small enterprises and support their families.
Rashda Mahmood, philanthropy & partnerships lead, Islamic Relief UK comments “We’re delighted to be working on the EmpowerHer campaign again for 2026. In a world where women all too often bear the disproportionate brunt of poverty, seeing so many women volunteer to raise money for their sisters worldwide is so inspirational. We feel so honoured that they have chosen to use their time to raise money for such a worthwhile campaign, all of us at Islamic Relief are humbled by their commitment and empathy.”
