Islington charity receives donation from Amazon
An Islington-based creative arts charity for children has been boosted by a £2,000 donation from Amazon’s head office team in Shoreditch.
Amberliegh is an integrated creative arts, music and drum and dance group for children and young people of different cultures, ages and abilities. The charity provides a safe space for children to practice their musical activities regularly and participate in public performances to boost their self-confidence.
As well as updating the current music and dance classes the charity hosts, the donation from Amazon will be put towards the purchase of new musical equipment and supplies.
Speaking on the donation, Katie Bucher, Amazon in the Community UK Lead, said:
“Creative arts are hugely important to children and young people’s development. At Amazon we’re passionate about helping young people succeed, whatever their background, and we hope this donation will help Amberleigh to continue to provide a fantastic service for young people in Islington”
Akunna Nwanna-Skeete from Amberliegh added:
“Donations like this help us to continue running the classes we offer to children and young people from all over Islington, many of whom would not have access to creative activities if it wasn’t for us. Thank you to Amazon for supporting Amberliegh, it means a lot.”
Amberliegh received the donation as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.
Throughout the pandemic Amazon has provided disadvantaged students with online STEM courses and supported virtual classrooms with no-cost resources from AWS, Maths4All and Amazon Future Engineer. The company has also teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than four million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas around the UK.
