JAMES Cleverly has insisted that Ukraine will win the war against the Russians.
Speaking on GB News Breakfast this morning, the Foreign Secretary said: “I do know they’re going to win the war. They are definitely going to win the war. I’ve seen the resilience and the resolve of the Ukrainians both here in London and on my visits to Ukraine. So, I’m in no doubt about that at all. And actually, what we saw over the winter, for example, is those municipal heroes, those people working to repair the energy infrastructure to keep the lights on to keep the heating going to keep the water flowing. These people need and deserve our support. So whilst they are making steady, methodical progress in the conflict in the east and the south, they need support from the international community, not just the UK but from the international community to repair that infrastructure so we can get that keep growing and so they can export that food that can keep their own energy needs addressed. And ultimately, of course, go back to the point where they can be an energy exporter. It’s good for Ukraine. It’s good for the UK and is good for the world.
He added: “The irony of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was it triggered both Finland and Sweden to apply to join NATO and these were two countries who for decades had not looked to join NATO. We’ve seen Ukraine do an incredible job on the battlefield, and revolutionise how they operate, very quickly and that will inevitably mean their journey to NATO membership will be quicker than it might otherwise have been. But ultimately, the job in the here and now is to support them in their self-defence, to support them in their recovery and in their rebuild.”
