JOHN MAIN SEMINAR 2018

The speakers at this year’s 35th John Main Seminar – inspired by  diverse contemplative perspectives – will offer new paradigms for Politics, Economics, Leadership, Philosophy, Medicine, Science and Religion.

With the presence of Herman Van Rompuy, Robert Johnson, Sean Hagan, Charles Taylor, Sr. Teresa Forcades, Dr. Barry White, and Marco Schorlemmer.

 

Every year since 1984, the WCCM has hosted an international seminar exploring a contemplative approach to modern society on topics such as environment, science, mental illness, aging, and interreligious dialogue.

Previous presenters of the Seminar have included His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Cardinal Walter Kasper, former President of Ireland Mary McAleese, composer and singer Margaret Rizza, Jesuit Zen Master, Robert Kennedy, Founder of l’Arche Jean Vanier, Philosopher and author of “A Secular Age” Charles Taylor.

SPEAKERS 2018

> Herman Van Rompuy: Former Prime Minister of Belgium and first President of the European Council.

> Robert Johnson: President of the Institute for New Economic Thinking and Director of the Project on Global Finance at the Roosevelt Institute.

> Sean Hagan: General Counsel of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

> Charles Taylor: Philosopher, Professor Emeritus at McGill University awarded (Templeton Prize) for his contributions to political and social science philosophy. Each day he will present a synthesis of the conferences and workshops.

> Sr. Teresa Forcades: Contemplative Benedictine nun and active political and social commentator in Catalonia.

> Dr. Barry White: First National Director of Clinical Care for the Irish Health Executive and CEO of a new healthcare system.

> Marco Schorlemmer: Senior scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of the Spanish National Research Council.
