Just Eat and Sainsbury’s launches first ever Christmas Picky Bits delivery store

There’s no denying that as a nation we love picky bits. Regardless of whether you call it a picky tea, party food, canapes or nibbles, we’ll all be tucking into our favorite bite-sized food this Christmas. However, what makes the ultimate picky tea is hotly debated. According to new research by Just Eat, discussing what “bits” we should be “picking” is causing fiery food friction amongst Brits, with over one in 10 (13%) admitting to storming out in a huff over the topic.

While it perhaps comes as no surprise that the top three picky bits include pigs in blankets, cheese and crisps, over half (59%) of the population believe traditional trimmings, including Brussels sprouts, stuffing and roast potatoes, have a rightful place in a picky bits spread too. Interestingly, even items such as bao buns, pickles and prawn toast are considered ultimate picky foods, demonstrating people’s tastes are wildly subjective.

To avoid having to compromise on our top choices, a new festive picky meal delivery service has been introduced, which tailors to our personal tastes. For this weekend only, Just Eat and Sainsbury’s are trialling the first ever Christmas Picky Bits delivery store in London (8th – 10th December). Ideal for those hosting a friends-mas spread or want to satisfy their picky food cravings, the brand new concept allows food-lovers to build their own picky meal from a selection of the nation’s favourite nibbles, with veggie, vegan and meat options.

The launch of the store comes as the research also reveals Brits rated tucking into Christmas “picky bits”, as one of their most popular festive traditions (77%), beating opening presents (59%), attending parties (22%) and carolling (15%). It also seems rebellious Gen Z are those driving this meal occasion, with almost half (44%) admitting being influenced by viral social phenomena like TikTok’s “Girl Dinner” citing the need for “no rules” when it comes to their festive meals.

Recognising that variety is the festive spice of life, those ordering from the Christmas Picky Bits store can personalise their festive spread with a wide choice from Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference range; from classics such as Pigs in Blankets, an antipasti platter or brie and cranberry tarts, to sweet treats such as Chocolate or Mini Mince Pies, as as well as less traditional options, such as ‘Baos of Holly’ bao buns and ‘Posh Prawn Toasties’.

Weighing in on the debate is self-confessed picky food lover and TV personality, Chloe Burrows, who debated the topic of what the ultimate festive picky plate should be with YouTube star, Specs Gonzalez, and fittingly, whose life’s motto is “no rules”.

Picky bits food fanatic and TV personality, Chloe Burrows, said, ‘Christmas picky bits there’s no rules! You can have them in the morning, afternoon, dinner. Cheese is number is 1 (that’s cleaning up!), then pigs in blankets, and spring rolls to finish off.’

But Picky Bits can be divisive. YouTube star, Specs Gonzalez, said, ‘When it comes to the best picky bits, for me it’s chicken, it’s gummy sweets, and it’s salami… plus some mince pies!’

Picky food-lovers can order from the Just Eat x Sainsbury’s Christmas Picky Bits store in London areas in and around Bermondsey and Wood Green, exclusively on Just Eat opening for lunch and dinnertime.
