LaCage, Montreal Sports Brasserie Opens Its First UK Location In London, Bringing a New Way to Eat, Drink and Watch Live Sport

On 4th September, a new kind of sports dining experience will arrive in London as LaCage opens its first UK restaurant on Kensington High Street.

New to London, but with more than 40 years of history behind it, LaCage is a Montreal sports brasserie institution built around a commitment that guests won’t have to compromise on where they eat, drink and socialise just because there’s a match on.

LaCage has become an established part of the hospitality landscape in its home city Montreal, Canada, growing to more than 40 restaurants and generations of loyal guests. For London, the focus is firmly on bringing the spirit of Montréal to Kensington, taking inspiration from the city’s creative, welcoming, generous and naturally sociable approach to hospitality.

Combining great food, considered cocktails, warm hospitality and the atmosphere of live sport, LaCage Kensington will give Londoners somewhere to come together before, during and long after the final whistle.

Food sits at the heart of the LaCage experience, with a menu that brings the spirit of the Montréal brasserie to London. Quebec classics include Poutine Classique, loaded with cheese curds and rich poutine sauce, alongside 24 hour Smoked Beef Short Rib with creamy polenta, the Smoked Short Rib Burger with Jarlsberg and maple bacon, and Rib Eye Steak seasoned with Montréal steak spice. Elsewhere, the menu moves from Lobster Rolls and hot honey Montréal style pizza to Beavertails, Montréal style doughnuts served with cinnamon sugar, maple ice cream and dark chocolate sauce.

The Canadian influence continues behind the bar, where signatures include a Montréal Mule with Canadian Club, ginger and maple syrup, a Maple Old Fashioned and the Montréal Spritz, combining maple whisky, Aperol, Cava and black cherry bitters. LaCage will also introduce Londoners to the Montréal Caesar, the Québec favourite made with vodka, Clamato, Montréal spice and maple bacon, alongside Canadian beers including Molson Canadian and Moosehead.

The Kensington opening introduces a brand-new LaCage concept, developed specifically for London. Set across two floors, the space has been designed to accommodate the capital’s many different sporting allegiances, with areas that can be adapted to show multiple fixtures at the same time.
From football and rugby to cricket, F1, hockey, darts and major international tournaments, LaCage will become a home for London’s must watch sporting moments, giving guests the best seat in the house, even when they can’t be in the stadium itself.

The Kensington opening also marks a significant moment in La Cage’s wider story. Part of Groupe Grandio, one of Québec’s leading hospitality groups, La Cage has, until now, built its identity predominantly within French speaking Canada, with the brand also having recently expanded into France. London has been deliberately chosen as the brand’s first move into an English speaking market, with Kensington set to become a flagship for its future international ambitions.

Jean Bédard, President and CEO of Groupe Grandio and founder of La Cage, says about the opening of La Cage London:

“London felt like the right place for the next chapter of La Cage. It’s a city that loves great restaurants, great sport and, most importantly, coming together. That’s something we understand. La Cage has always been about much more than watching a game, it’s the food, the drinks, the people you’re with and the atmosphere around it. We’re excited to bring that experience to London and show people what La Cage is all about.”

On international growth Bédard shares:

“La Cage has been part of life in Québec for more than 40 years, but London is our first step into an English speaking market and an opportunity to introduce the brand to a completely new audience. We have big ambitions for La Cage internationally, but our focus right now is Kensington. We want to build something that Londoners genuinely love and want to come back to. If we can do that here, it gives us an exciting foundation for what could come next.”

For Bédard, London is an opportunity to introduce La Cage to an entirely new audience while protecting the warmth, generosity and sense of togetherness that have kept guests returning for four decades.

For London, a city where watching sport can still mean choosing between the food you want to eat and the atmosphere you want to be part of, La Cage offers a unique experience without compromising the core elements of enjoying an evening of socialising.

Further details on the menu, reservations and opening will be announced shortly.
